Earth Science - What you need to know about Science Fair
Science Fair and What You Need To Know
*Science Fair is a process that always begins with a QUESTION
*The students have selected a question for their science fair projects
*For each Question or Topic there will be a RESEARCH PAPER written by the end of the school year
*We went on a Field Trip to the Bull Street Library where the students were taught how to Research their topics (each topic has 3 or more broad and narrow categories of research) and the students selected books and other materials to check out
*RIGHT NOW the students need to be reading their research and taking notes on index cards (source name on one side of the card and notes on the other)
*These research sources should total 5 or more (no wilkapedia, ask.com, or about.com) and there should be 25 or more note cards written (from the note cards students will be typing their research paper of 2 or more pages, Times New Roman, 12 point/font)
*These notes should be in 6th GRADE students work and words and NOT copied directly from any source
*These 25 or more index cards will be due on Monday, February 28 for a grade.
*It is very tempting to help your students with their writing but please make sure that the only help given is just to take them to the library (they may ask the research librarians at the Islands Branch for help). Great sources are: dictionary, encyclopedia (online and hard copy), newspaper or magazine sources, books, internet sources ONLY if there is an author's name or magazine article which is usually shown at the top or bottom of the article.
