Classroom Policies
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you had a fun-filled summer. I am looking forward to our year together. For those of you who do not know me, I look forward to meeting you. I am really excited about Third grade. I want to help each child develop into the best student possible. Third grade is a big academic year. Students should begin to become independent learners as well as independent, self-reliant workers. A big part of 3rd grade is to develop a good work ethic; each student being responsible and proud of all their assignments and work. Personal pride in his/her work is a very important step in academic success.
Please look over the following policies:
DISCIPLINE /BEHAVIOR:
Each child is responsible for his/her own behavior. As we know, all behavior has a consequence; good or bad. Good behavior at school results in a good learning environment. Disruptive/inappropriate behavior at school affects your child’s learning environment as well as the others around your child. I will warn students about inappropriate behavior. If the behavior continues, the student shall receive a consequence. The consequence will be appropriate to the action. Inappropriate behavior is talking in class, not working in class ,disrupting our class, talking in the halls, fighting with others, and misbehavior in church. Since these misbehaviors take away from our learning time/my teaching time and faith time, I believe the consequence should take away from the student(s) FREE TIME. The punishment I choose most often is a written punishment. I truly believe that when students know and understand how their behavior can affect their own life, they will choose to behave appropriately.
- SUPPLIES: Students need to be prepared with all supplies needed to do their work. Please replace supplies as needed throughout the year.
- BOOKS: All workbooks must be covered in clear contact paper. I will send 2-3 books home a night to be covered. Please return books (covered or not) to school each day. We will begin work immediately----------AUGUST 16TH.
- WRITTEN WORK: All written work must have the proper heading on the top of the paper and be written in cursive. (Points will be taken off each assignment if these two items are not addressed.)I understand that students need to practice cursive writing. You may need to buy a book for additional practice at home. I will also provide extra help sheets.
- HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned nightly. Students may also have reports and/or projects to do in addition to nightly assignments. Homework is meant to enhance what we are learning in class and give additional practice. Please make sure that all assignments are complete. Failure to complete homework will result in points being taken from that subject area and may affect the student’s conduct grade for the quarter. You will not find nightly assignments posted on our web page. I will post the skills we are working on for the week and up-coming test.
- TESTS: The students will be testing in each subject to check progress and knowledge of content being taught. Spelling tests will be given every Friday. Math and English maintenance quizzes will be given weekly, too. Vocabulary test will be given every two weeks. Other tests will be announced SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE. I will also grade many class work assignments for a grade.
- TEST PAPERS: All graded work will be sent on TUESDAY. Please sign each test and return on WEDNESDAY.
- NOTES: Please label all money that is sent into the school. Please let me know by note if your child will be leaving early or riding home with someone different. A call MUST be made to the OFFICE if your child’s arrangements change during the day. To avoid any issues with pick up, please list all potential rides for your child (family, friends, and neighbors).Your child will not be released to anyone not listed on the pick up form. THIS IS FOR YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again, I look forward to an excellent year with your child. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached through the school or at home (898-1735) before 7:00pm.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lisa Daniel
